Tennessee Just Dismantled Its Civil Rights Commission 🛑
HB 910 / SB 861 quietly went into effect on July 1, 2025, and it’s a BIG deal.
➡️ This law eliminated the Tennessee Human Rights Commission (THRC)—the agency that for decades helped people file complaints about discrimination in housing, employment, disability access, and more.
➡️ All current investigations were shut down. Thousands of civil rights complaints? Gone.
➡️ Going forward, victims of discrimination must now go through the Attorney General’s Office—a politicized, less community-accessible system.
🔍 The THRC served Black and Brown communities, LGBTQ+ folks, immigrants, people with disabilities, and low-income Tennesseans. It was built for the people.
💬 Now that structure is gone—and civil rights enforcement is under political control.
📣 If you believe in fair housing, fair workplaces, and accessible justice, you need to know about this law. It’s part of a larger trend rolling back DEI and civil rights protections across the state.
